We are thrilled and delighted to be part of Eastside’s Spoken Word Power project.

SPOKEN WORD POWER is a new, funded project supporting Primary, Secondary and SEND schools across the nation to creatively champion the spoken word, nurturing positive attitudes to language and learning and providing a platform for the vibrant voices of a new generation of young people.

The project makes language exciting, inclusive and fun, and develops oracy, speaking & listening, and writing skills through inquiry-based, collaborative approaches, injecting joy into school life.

This year’s SPOKEN WORD POWER theme: Speaking My Truth

All schools can get involved via the Open Call

Simply download a free Speaking My Truth lesson plan and accompanying videos from eastside.org.uk, to get your class developing their very own spoken word poetry, then use the Teacher Guides to help you put on your very own School Poetry Slam.

All participating schools are invited to send Eastside one poem to represent their school, to be featured in our published Poetry Anthology and featured on our World Poetry Day digital celebration.

Performance Event, 14th March 2022

We are still buzzing from the spectacular event in March at the Lakeside Theatre. Hearing the children and young people perform their own poetry was amazing and inspiring. Congratulations to all involved in this uplifting project.

Take a look at the videos from a few of the performances on the night. You can also see videos from the events which took place in the other regions participating in the project.
