Our 3rd annual Youth Climate Summit is taking place on Saturday 13th January 2024 as part of EA Sustain at Firstsite in Colchester.
We are delighted to announce that Caroline Lucas MP will be taking part in our panel discussion as part our Youth Climate Summit. As the first and, still, only Green Party MP (Brighton Pavilion) to be elected in the UK, Caroline Lucas represents the front edge of environmental-political progress in the UK. Caroline will join our panel discussion alongside local young environmentalists including climate activist and WWF Youth Ambassador, Hattie Phillips and Performer/Artistic Director Marina Cusi to discuss Healing This Land.
As part of the day attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in two of these environmental-themed creative taster workshops:
Game Changer Workshop: Turning Video Games into Environmental Advocacy with Signals
Transform classic video games into arcade quests for environmental action and climate change awareness. Explore the world of video game remixing and discover how you can use game design to communicate environmental action. No previous coding experience required. All equipment provided.
This workshop is delivered by Signals, an award winning charity who use technology and creativity to inspire, engage and empower people of all ages and backgrounds.
Eco-podcast Taster Workshop with Michelle Durant
Ever wondered how a podcast is put together? Experienced broadcaster and Podcast Trainer Michelle will take you through the basics where you can put your new found skills into practice. Interview guests at the summit and turn your work into a striking piece of audio journalism that can make a real impact with listeners.
An Introduction to Eco-poetry and Spoken word with Mad, Who?
Join Marina Cusi for an epic introduction to poetry and spoken word, exploring topics of ecology, the natural world, and eco-activism. Marina is Artistic Director of Mad, Who?, a Colchester-based theatre company producing original theatre that fuses multidisciplinary arts and activism.
Protest Banner Creative Maker Workshop with YAK (Young Art Kommunity)
Get hands-on and help YAK to make a Protest Banner using weaving and recycled materials.
Young Art Kommunity (YAK) is Firstsite’s young-people peer-led group which offers a supportive environment where young people can gain experience, develop their confidence and learn new skills at relaxed and informal creative sessions.
