Despite the festival’s abrupt and premature ending this year, we feel very fortunate to have enjoyed eighteen days and nights of exceptional events in venues across Essex.
Here’s a snapshot of Essex Book Festival 2020…
Wet Sounds
Saturday 29th February and Sunday 1st March 2020
A truly unique event came to Chelmsford as part of Essex Book Festival.
The event was a collaboration between Wet Sounds and local sound artists. Inspired by the novel The Drowned World by JG Ballard which is set in a post-apocalyptic future where due to climate change the city of London has been submerged underwater and the sparsely inhabited world above has turned into a thriving tropical environment.

Joel Cahen of Wet Sounds was joined by Chris Adam and Andrew Wright of the Resonance arts collective in Chelmsford and Colchester-based sound-artist Frazer Merrick. Visuals by SDNA and lighting by Joe Lucas.
