We are absolutely delighted to playing our part in Essex 2020, a year-long, county-wide celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) in Essex.
Inspired by the prestigious British Science Festival, which comes to the region in 2020 for the first time in its 189-year history, Essex 2020 will present a programme of STEAM-related exhibitions, festivals, performances, workshops, conferences, trails and more for everyone to enjoy.
Essex also celebrates 400 years since The Mayflower left Harwich for the New World, 200 years since The Beagle took Darwin from the East of England to the Galapagos and 100 years since Marconi broadcast Dame Nellie Melba from Chelmsford and revolutionised the way we communicate.
What’s our role? Our role is to help put the ‘A’ into ‘STEM’. We’re doing this in a variety of ways. Our events include Jim Al-Khalili and Charlie Connelly; a book-inspired underwater performance in Riverside swimming pool; a Tree-Mend-us ‘tree-inspired’ Day in Chelmsford’s Civic Theatre; plus a range of workshops for young people focusing on Climate Change and ‘greening’ Essex.
Let’s help make 2020 put Essex on the map!
