A Monster Calls, Headgate Young Company

Thirteen-year-old Conor and his Mum have been managing fine since his dad moved to America, but now she is very sick, and his Gran, with whom he has a difficult relationship, has to become involved in looking after him. There’s a yew tree at the bottom of Conor’s garden, and in it there is a Monster. An elemental force, one night it appears at his window and tells him “I will tell you three stories from when I walked the earth… and when I have finished my three stories, you will tell me a fourth. And it will be the truth”.
