Award-winning comedian Rosie Wilby shares funny, bizarre and poignant tales of heartbreak and recovery with special guests Njambi McGrath and Syd Moore – in a live recording of her acclaimed podcast.

Rosie has been obsessively researching the psychology of love for a decade and has even been dubbed the ‘the queen of breakups’ by BBC Radio 4.

The Breakup Monologues is now also available as a book combining humour, heartache and science to investigate how on earth to actually stay in a relationship in the modern age of ghosting, breadcrumbing and conscious uncoupling. It has been described by Red Magazine as a ‘gem of a book’ and by Viv Groskop as ‘funny, sweet, entertaining, insightful and life-affirming.’

The Breakup Monologues by Rosie Wilby

In 2011, comedian and podcaster Rosie Wilby was dumped by email… though she did feel a little better about it after correcting her ex’s spelling and punctuation. Obsessing about breakups ever since, she embarked on a quest to investigate, understand and conquer the psychology of heartbreak.

This book is a love letter to her breakups, a celebration of what they have taught her peppered with anecdotes from illustrious friends and interviews with relationship therapists, scientists and sociologists about separating in the modern age of ghosting, breadcrumbing and conscious uncoupling.

Mixing humour, memoir and science, she attempts to assimilate their advice and ideas in order to not break up with Girlfriend, her partner of nearly three years. Will this self-confessed serial monogamist, and breakup addict, finally settle down?

Rosie Wilby

Rosie Wilby is an award-winning comedian, author and podcaster who has appeared many times on BBC Radio 4 programmes including Woman’s Hour and Four Thought. Her first book Is Monogamy Dead? was longlisted for the Polari First Book Prize and followed a trilogy of solo shows investigating the psychology of love and relationships. Her new book The Breakup Monologues is based on her acclaimed podcast of the same name (British Podcast Award nominee 2020). She also regularly writes on sexuality and dating for publications including Cosmo, Stylist, The i and New Statesman.

Njambi McGrath

Njambi was the winner of the the prestigious Hackney Empire New Act of the Year comedy award in 2019. Her memoir Through the Leopard’s Gaze (Jacaranda) has been optioned for TV and last year she presented her own Radio 4 series Becoming Njambi. She has performed all over the world.

Syd Moore 

Best known for her Essex Witch Museum Mysteries (Strange Magic, Strange Sight, Strange Fascination, Strange Tombs, Strange Tricks) Syd Moore is also the founder of the Essex Girls Liberation Front, who successfully campaigned to have the definition of ‘Essex Girl’ removed from the Oxford Learners’ Dictionary in 2020. In the nineties she presented Channel 4’s book programme, Pulp, and regularly appears on television, radio, at universities, on political panels and at festivals. Her writing has been described as ‘Dennis Wheatley meets Caitlin Moran’.
