The Tidal Zone is about a rupture of ordinary life. In this exceptionally courageous novel, Sarah Moss goes where most of us wouldn’t dare to look, and the result is riveting – unbearably sad, but also miraculously funny and ultimately hopeful. The Tidal Zone explores parental love, fear, illness and recovery.

Sarah Moss is a novelist, travel writer and academic. She has written five novels, in addition to a book of non-fiction on living in Iceland, and academic books on Romantic-era British literature, food history and gender.

FESTIVAL 4 – MULTIPLE EVENT OFFER: This year we are offering four events for the price of three on selected talks – Just choose any four events with the ‘Festival 4’ symbol when booking in person, over the phone or online.

An excellent read, inviting empathy from any parent The Guardian

Proving she’s at the top of her game, Moss has written a new kind of state-of-the-nation novel, one that addresses big themes – mortality, parental love, 21st-century gender politics, even the NHS – all explored through the prism of one ordinary family The Independent
